What counts as a heritage venue here

Two different things share the label, and the bill is different for each. The first is the Indo-Portuguese house: a mansion at Chandor or Loutolim, a villa estate at Saligao or Assagao, a palace at Quepem, taken whole on a day rental with the kitchen brought in. The second is the heritage hotel, a five-star built on fort land at Sinquerim or a Portuguese-village resort on the Vainguinim side, which charges like any other hotel, per plate against a minimum. Who it suits

Couples who want old walls and a courtyard rather than a lawn and a sea view. Weddings under 150 at a house; weddings of any size at the heritage hotels. What a house asks of you that a hotel does not

Beds, first. A mansion might have a dozen rooms, so the guest list sleeps in hotels nearby and the transfer plan is real work. Sound, second: many of these houses sit inside villages, and the 10pm outdoor rule is enforced by neighbours as much as by the panchayat, so the late half of the night moves into the ballroom the house was built with. Catering, third: there is no per-plate rate, so the food is its own contract and the kitchen is often a marquee in the garden. The heritage hotels skip all three.
