When rain is and is not a real risk

From late November to March, rain in Goa is a rounding error: outdoor ceremonies in these months rarely need more than a heat plan, and the risk conversation is about heat at 2pm, not water. October and early November sit just after the monsoon's tail: overwhelmingly dry, with the occasional parting shower, which is why October's pricing is the bargain of the calendar. June to September is the monsoon proper. It is not drizzle; it is the Arabian Sea emptying itself on the coast, and no lawn survives it uncovered.

The backup, properly designed

A rain plan is not "we will move it inside" — a ballroom holding your exact guest count, dressed at the last minute, is a different and usually sadder wedding. A real plan is designed twice from the start: the mandap drawn for the lawn and re-drawn for the covered space, the decor components chosen to move, the vendors briefed on both versions, and the switch rehearsed on paper. When it is designed this way, the covered version is a wedding you would have chosen, not one you settled for. That double design is part of our scope on every outdoor wedding, monsoon or not.

The 48-hour call

Forecasts for the Goa coast are good enough at two days to commit. We make the call with the venue 48 hours out, and the deadline does real work: it is when tenting must start going up if it is going up, when the decor build splits between versions, and when the family stops refreshing the weather app. One person makes the call. It should be your planner, because everyone else at that table is emotionally invested in the lawn.

Choosing the monsoon on purpose

Some couples pick July deliberately, and they are not wrong: the state is at its greenest, venues quote their softest rates of the year, and rain on a covered veranda has its own drama. The trade is honest — you are buying the indoor-and-covered wedding at a discount, not gambling on a dry day. Venues with genuinely beautiful covered space make it work; ask to see that space in person, in the rain if you can.

What it costs

Cover is a real line item: quality tenting or a hangar for a full wedding is a lakhs-scale decision that varies with the span and the venue's own inventory, and cheap tarpaulin is how wedding photos get ruined. We quote it per venue and per layout rather than publishing a number that would be wrong for yours — and at indoor-capable venues, the best rain plan is often the ballroom you already paid for.
