The 12-month checklist, in Goa order

A destination wedding runs a different critical path from a hometown one: the venue and the room block outrank everything, the permissions have their own calendar, and your guests are a logistics project of their own. Here is the sequence as it actually needs to run.
Twelve to ten months: date, venue, rooms — the tripod
The Goa season is short and the good dates cluster — the muhurat calendar's compressed 2026–27 winter makes this year sharper still — so the first three bookings happen nearly together: the date (from the astrologer or parish where one rules; from the season guide where you are free), the venue against it, and the room block in the same conversation, because at a destination wedding the rooms are half the venue decision. Decide North or South before you shortlist — the two coasts host different weddings — and read the venue's charging model before you love it.
Ten to seven months: the guest machine starts
Save-the-dates go earlier for destination weddings than any etiquette page admits: your guests are buying flights, and flight prices punish the polite. Name the airport in the announcement — Mopa for the north, Dabolim for the south — and open the room-block booking link at the same time. Photography and film teams who travel well book out across the same season you did; lock them now. And start the design conversation: a beach ceremony build has wind and tide homework that indoor decor never meets.
Seven to four months: paper and production
The permissions file opens at the latest by eight weeks out — beach ceremony clearances, sound, bar licences where the venue's own cover does not extend — per the sequence in the beach guide. Menus taste better decided than defaulted: do the tasting on the planning trip if you are coming, on video with the banquet chef if you are not. Outfits, entertainment, the sangeet's running order, and the transfer plan for moving your whole guest list between airport, hotel and any second venue.
The last eight weeks: counts, weather, the run-sheet
Final plate counts inside the caterer's window; the rain call structure agreed for any shoulder-season date — 48 hours out, one owner, per the rain plan; hampers assembled and room-drop scheduled; the run-sheet printed in every needed timezone with one owner per day. And the item every Goa checklist forgets: brief your guests. The airport, the dress codes by event, the 10pm indoor move — one WhatsApp-able page saves forty identical conversations.
In what order should you plan a Goa wedding?
Date, venue and room block together at ten to twelve months out — the three decisions that depend on each other. Then guest communications and travel at ten to seven months (save-the-dates early, airport named, booking link open), production and permissions at seven to four months (the beach-ceremony permission file opens by eight weeks out at the latest), and counts, weather calls and run-sheets in the final eight weeks.

How early should guests book flights to Goa?
As soon as the date is firm — which is why save-the-dates for Goa weddings go out with the airport named, eight to ten months ahead. Season flights into Goa price up steeply near the peak weeks, and a guest who books early pays meaningfully less than one who waits for the printed invitation.
Can a Goa wedding be planned in six months?
Yes, with the compromise concentrated in venue choice on peak dates — December weekends will be gone, but October, late January and weekday dates stay workable much later. The permissions, production and guest logistics all fit comfortably inside six months once the venue exists.
What do couples most often book too late?
The room block and the photographer. Rooms, because couples treat them as the guests’ problem until the hotel releases the hold; photographers, because the good destination teams sell the same compressed season the venues do. Both belong in the first ninety days of planning.
Do we need to visit Goa before the wedding?
