The five visual worlds
The Latin Quarter. Fontainhas' painted streets are the most photographed lanes in Goa and still worth it: colour-blocked walls, tiled doorways, azulejo details. Shoot at first light — the lanes are narrow, residential and busiest by mid-morning, and courtesy to residents is part of the craft. The forts. Ramparts, laterite texture and sea horizons; these are managed heritage sites, so timings, entry rules and any filming consent are site-specific — the early slots beat both the crowds and the heat. The quiet beaches. Not Baga: the far-north stretches and the south's long empty sand give you the sea without an audience. Golden hour is the cliché because it is correct — and Goa adds the blue hour after sunset, which the west-facing coast serves better than almost anywhere in India. The inland greens. Paddy fields, coconut groves, the plantation country — Goa's least-used and most atmospheric backdrop, at its best in the post-monsoon months when the state is impossibly green. Private estates need the owner's yes, which is usually a phone call. The water itself. Two windows a day, always: the first ninety minutes of light and the last. Midday in Goa is for lunch and naps, photographically speaking. Plan the shoot two or three days before the wedding if guests travel with you — never the day before, which belongs to the roce or the mehendi and to sleep.

Should the shoot be before the wedding week or during it?
